An Afternoon Of Ice Skating And Celebrating The Festive Season With Opportunities Clients & Staff

Our Sport Project lead a fun-filled festive afternoon of ice skating for clients and staff at Somerset House. For some clients, it was their first time skating and for others, it allowed them to do something they hadn’t done for a long time.

It was great to see clients and staff from a range of different services come together to enjoy an afternoon on the ice. Several clients expressed how enjoyable it was to come as a big group as it made them feel more confident in a busy and social environment.

It was nice to support clients do something they haven’t tried before – Fiona, Health Team

Ice skating provided an opportunity for clients to build upon friendships and to meet new people from other services. Encouraging socialisation in an active setting are values at the core of the Opportunities Programme.

I’ve wanted to come ice skating for a while but didn’t have the confidence before this – Tessa, Client

It also gave clients structure to their day and offered a fun activity where otherwise they may have had little to do. Part of the success of our Sport Project is thinking outside the box when it comes to keeping our clients engaged and active with the Programme.

One client, Derren, highlighted, if it wasn’t for this activity, all he’d be doing would be sitting in his room alone, so it’s extremely important for the Project to create positive experiences.

Some of the clients stayed after skating to enjoy a hot chocolate together and have photos in front of the Christmas tree. It provided a further opportunity for clients to socialise and enjoy the festive atmosphere (whilst warming up a little bit!).

I find it so relaxing, I’d love to do it again – Andrew, Client

The day brought together staff from our Sport, Health and Recovery Opportunities Teams, as well as clients from multiple residences. It’s lovely to see our clients and Opportunities Programmes strands coming together for such a lovely day out.

It was great to see clients from different services come together and enjoy themselves – Jordan, Sport Team

We are incredibly grateful to be involved in these special moments that bring such enjoyment to our clients.

I’ll wake up in the morning feeling happy – Courteney, Client
