SoundHouse Project Spaces - Our Farnborough House Studio Is Creating Space For Young People To Express Themselves Through Music

SoundHouse is an organisation-wide service provided for clients to express themselves through music.

From tuition to song writing and recording, SoundHouse can offer sessions tailored to individual needs; work on building self confidence and expand your skillset in music, working and collaborating with others. The Project also broadens your knowledge on the music industry while we support you to achieve new goals. Participating in sessions opens new doors to more creative opportunities too.

SoundHouse also has its own label and can release your music onto any digital streaming platform.

From beginner to pro, come have a go!

Farnborough House Studio

Located in Lewisham, Our Youth Music funded, Farnborough House Studio has been created for all between 16-21 to use for free.

FH studio has an iMac running Logic X and FL studio, full drum kit, virus midi keyboard, vocal booth, great microphones, guitars, bass guitar and amps.

Genelec 1034b studio, monitors donated from Strongroom Studios - Shoreditch

We have on board some great producers that will help you get the sound you want.

2021 the album “shooting star” by Cairo CC was recorded at the studio (check out the track UPTOWN on Spotify) and lots more were recorded here too.

RY, SoundHouse Creator

“My name is RY, I’m 18 (turning 19 in April) I love music, sport and art. I’ve been making music for about six months now maybe three or four times a month. I do this as a hobby and really enjoy it and have a passion for it.

Some of my influences in music are J HUS, Nafe Smallz, Young Adz and a lot of people from the UK scene.

I do like lots of genres of music.

Without the studio I wouldn’t have been able to make the music, also it’s free, always accessible with friendly staff and good producers.

I’d like to continue doing music as a hobby but if it goes somewhere else and I get to release music that’s awesome!”

Sam, SoundHouse Freelancer

If you're lucky in life you might be born into a situation that allows you the money time and space to pursue music as more than what is increasingly becoming an educational afterthought.

Music is a universal art form across the planet and yet in our education system if your creativity or cultural and economic background doesn't immediately guarantee that you're gonna earn proper money there is little encouragement that can be found for you to follow your creative passion.

At FH Studio we actively rebel against this: Want to record your next release? No problem - Want to freestyle over a "type" beat? No problem - Want to write a song? No problem - Want to understand what creativity is? No problem - Want to try playing an instrument? No problem - Don't know what makes a song? No problem. Not sure where to start with music? No problem!

FH studio is a chill, open minded environment to explore your own sense of creativity and music.

Working in collaboration with FH studio I've witnessed Young People grow from inexperienced studio users who are unsure of their sound to confident recording artists with a clear idea of what they want and how to achieve it. This has resulted in a single, EP and album releases and the understanding of what these are and how they work together as well as former studio users having had over 100k views of their releases on Mixtape Madness that have been recorded and mixed at FH studio.

Rob Walsh, SoundHouse Manager

“We talk frequently about levelling the playing field…. Well, music does this in a big way.

There is nothing that appears more empowering to me than Young People getting excited about the music that they’re writing and recording.

The studio creates an environment in which Young People can be expressive about the music they’re writing.

This has been paramount in being able to provide both the right setting and good equipment to get the tracks recorded.

Quite often, lyric and songwriting writing is a form of communication and gives Young People a voice to be heard.

This is amazing as it shows that Young People have something important to communicate and this is a great way to do this.

I find that music is the common ground in which we all have a connect, and Young People should be encouraged to make as much noise as possible…. They are the next generation doing the creating, and how else would we discover new music?”

To get into the studio and start making your own tracks, beats or mixes call or text Rob on 07817662415, email music@shp.org.uk or ask a member of staff for more info.
