Creating Spaces of Joy and Playfulness - Celebrating Halloween at SHP

As we enter into another lockdown, ‘creating spaces of joy and playfulness’ is how we’re keeping smiles on our faces and positivity in our actions.

Have a peek at how our Opportunities Programme celebrated Halloween this year.

‘This is Halloween!

“It’s officially spooky season, and here at SHP’s Mental Health supported accommodation in Hammersmith and Fulham, we’re having a whole week of all-hallows fun.

After a particularly heavy ten months, both staff and residents thought we should lean-in to the more light-hearted, joyful side of the festival, and what better way to do that than getting elbow-deep in a pumpkin?

At both our Perham Road and Baron’s Court Road projects, both the staff team and residents spent an afternoon carving up pumpkins to decorate our doorsteps and communal areas.

Some of us went for very traditional, straightforward designs..

Others (read: me), however, went for something a little more outlandish and experimental….

While we carved up our orange friends, we shared sweets and chatted about our favourite scary films, our worst attempts at costumes and, every now and again, a memory of childhood. Indeed, one resident commented that the session was, in a very positive way, “just like being a kid again”.

As the nights draw in and the pandemic (re)intensifies, it seems all the more important for us, both staff and residents alike, to create spaces of playfulness and joy to counterpoint the growing darkness all around.”

‘CARVE Events - A GreenHouse x Team ROC Halloween Collaboration’

Some spooky Halloween activities happening with a GreenHouse Project x Recovery Opportunities Coordinator collab. Lorena from GH and Georgie from Team ROC have been hosting some epic pumpkin carving events. The CARVE events have brought together residents in our North London Services picking pumpkins both big and small from the Allotments and carving pumpkins around a cozy fire pit.

Have a look at these SPOOKTACULAR snaps.
