Over the course of the last 4 months Hillsong have been collaborating with King Georges hostel, as well as other services within SHP providing amazing food resources!

As well as providing full shopping lists each week for the cooking groups at King Georges. During the current lockdown, Hillsong have provided daily freshly cooked meals to all 68 residents at King Georges hostel, as well as buying the majority of the food over the Christmas holidays, and giving personal hampers to all the residents.

We have managed to pull away the incredibly busy Lucy Crump, who has been co-ordinating the food effort in London, to catch up and ask her how Hillsong and SHP and have been collaborating together over the last 6 months.

Could you please let us know a little about Hillsong, and what your role has been during the pandemic?

Hillsong is a global church with a location based here in London, during the pandemic we jumped onboard with an initiative called Love Your Neighbour in response to the rise in unemployment and food poverty as a result of COVID-19.

What has it been like working with SHP and King Georges?

We were connected with SHP through Westminster City Council to see how we could partner together. Over the last few months it has been a pleasure to get to know some of the teams from various SHP locations, and see how you genuinely care for the service you are providing and those you are supporting.

The pandemic has had a big impact on many people, with food provisions, and availability of food to the most vulnerable becoming an even more serious issue– with all the positive impact you have already made – What are your hopes for how Hillsong will be able to work with charities such as SHP in the future?

I have truly seen that the way to best support the most vulnerable in our communities is through every person giving what they can to support another. I hope we inspire people, that no matter how small their contribution, they can make a difference to someone less fortunate than them, through avenues we can open up.

Now we always like good recommendations, and now more than ever having something good to watch is a nice a way to unwind! So over the last year and a bit, what are three of your favourite movies or tv series you have watched?

Westworld, Succession and as the new tv shows ran out we re-watched all of Dexter!
