Sports Day on Tour 2020 - And The Winners Are…

This year’s SHP Sports Day looked a little bit different, without the opportunity to mix hostels, holding an all inclusive Sports Day at a neutral venue was not possible. Instead the Sport & Health team ran an individual Sports Day for each service involved over a two week period. If anything, this actually added to the competitiveness of each team, as not only were they competing between hostels, we also noticed some healthy competition between each other.

Each day involved a number of fun events such as Welly Throwing, Limbo and the Egg and Spoon Race. It was great to see each hostel community come together and encourage each other throughout the day, witnessing relationships grow. It was a successful two weeks with both clients and staff getting involved from each Service, battling through the ever changing weather conditions. It was also impressive to see how much sporting talent there is within SHP, with some unbelievable scores on each of the events!

The two week event provided a platform to engage with clients that have not been involved within the Sports Programme before, but also the opportunity to celebrate the consistent involvement of our regular session attendees. In the aftermath of the Sports Day on Tour a number of clients and services have already expressed an interest in integrating some more regular Sports Sessions into their activity timetables.

Despite an extremely close contest, the Wandsworth Services claimed a deserved victory as SHP Sports Day on Tour 2020 overall winners. Second place was claimed by the Arlington Road Team, with Third place being split between Milton House and Islington Mental Health. The ‘Team Spirit Award’ was claimed by Redbridge, with a large client and staff turnout accompanied by high levels of encouragement within the Service community. The Sportsmanship award was collected by the Camden Aftercare Team. Over the full two weeks, the ‘Best Female Athlete’ was awarded to Ashley from Milton House with impressive scores in the Hula Hoop, Egg and Spoon Race and the Obstacle Course. The ‘Best Male Athlete’ was awarded to Stuart from Kean Street after impressive scores in the Welly Throwing and Target Toss.

Congrats to ALL who participated and cheered their teams on! Until next year…
